A collection of resources and clips for teaching Pythagoras to foundation students. The steps to success are my own, many of the other resources are clippings from other sources. The exam paper comes from this site. The others are freely available on TES, I am unsure of the original authors.

Made to close the gap on specific issue students were having with GCSE questions. Quickly made to order so 'no frills'.
Lesson designed for level 3 to 4 key stage 3 students. Resources collected from around the internet. The substitution top trumps will go well as a cementing activity following the 'you try' substitution slide.
The DFE has changed its position on how the linked pair results will be reported in the schools published figures from 2016. Originally the best result was to be doubled, now it will be an average of both. For existing year 10 and 11 it remains the best result that is reported. The source email is below. You’re correct in that when a pupil takes the two linked pair mathematics qualifications, the highest grade achieved will be used in the headline mathematics result.
I’m afraid the policies regarding attainment/progess 8 accountability measures from 2016 were slightly unclear when the first response went out, and the linked pair will actually be treated slightly differently in 2016. Pupils having done the mathematics linked pair will have the grades in both qualifications added together for the mathematics component of the measure, and not have the best grade of the pair doubled. Posters that I use with lower ability students to give them scaffolding with their times tables while pushing them towards skills they will use in other areas such as proportion and percentages. I have only included one as it can be easily adjusted. I don't put up the 2, 5 or 10's as they can be found from the information the pupils already have.
Below is confirmation from the D of E re the Linked Pair pilot and the implications for school data.
Question
We also have a different scenario concerning the Maths GCSE Linked pair pilot that we would like you to clarify please. Our Year 9’s, and 10’s, are following the GCSE Maths Linked pair pilot with Edexcel, in both cases they will sit one paper at the end of Year 10 and the other at the end of Year 11. We understand that in the performance tables we count the ‘best’ result from the two papers (so if a student gets a C in applications (first sitting) and an A in methods (first sitting) we counts the A in methods as the Maths qualification, what we are unsure of and would like you to clarify please is:-
What happens to the C grade in applications as far as the performance tables are concerned in 2015? What happens to the C grade in applications when we change to the new reporting method in 2016? Can it be counted in the ‘open’ section of the attainment 8 measure? Are we right in thinking that the best grade will be double weighted in 2016 ?
Answer
In response to your final query, the 'A' grade would be used for the maths grade, but the 'C' grade would also count in other measures (e.g. the Best 8). In 2016 the 'A' grade will be double weighted and the 'C' grade will be counted in the 'open'section. These are designed to give Head of Departments an overview of progress across a year group. They focus purely on progress and should be used to initiate conversations with teachers about which students need further monitoring/ intervention. The source data comes from SISRA - this document just puts the essential parts all in one place. The files are protected but there is no password so you can adjust them if you want. Please feel free to send any feedback or developments to me to @richermaths on twitter. Instructions are included, there is a bit of copy and pasting involved but the forms should take less than 10 minutes to fill in.
Correction has now been made to the grade C and D lines
The following resources are designed to be used with D to F grade students studying for the foundation tier. The resources are collected from a lot of different sources, the majority are my own. Those that are not are freely available on the internet. References to homework come from the Sample Assessment Material available on the Edexcel website (under linked pair). Set twice a week, homework is GCSE question practice in line with the topics being studied at the time. Medium Term Planning This is the final run of lessons towards the June exams. Students have covered other topics and some of these earlier in the year.
Starter Slips Every lesson starts with a 'functional' GCSE question. Students are encouraged to underline the key parts, annotate their calculations and write answers as sentences.

Contributed by a fantastic Primary colleague. I use this as a collective memory challenge first (in groups - look at the picture for a minute each then try and recreate). Followed up using the scrabble board I have posted before.
