This is an Nrich task, the starting activity is taken from Don Stewards Median blog. Stuck together in a literacy full package of self learning.
A mixture of discussion points to investigate pupils understanding of probability. When doing the 'how many rolls until I get a 6' I usually put my prediction (1) in a sealed envelope to maintain a bit of mystery.
For the horse race I have a set of weighted die. We do it normally first, once we have established how it works I discretely switch the dice. All the pupils choose now 6, 7 and 8 while I choose 11 and still win. They quickly understand what is meant by the term 'biased dice'. |
